Why do I run out of hot water quickly?

The 2 most common reasons are: 1) sediment has built up in the bottom of the tank and is causing a false thermostat reading. 2) tank-style water heaters have a pipe (dip tube) that conveys the cold water to the bottom to be heated, the heated water rises to the top then to the outlet pipe. If the dip tube has deteriorated the cold water never gets to the bottom to be heated and just goes right back out the top.

Why does it take a long time to get hot water?

If the water heater is producing hot water correctly, the heated water still needs to travel through the piping to get to where you are using it. This can be sped up by the use of a circulating pump system.

Why does my water heater make a rumbling and hissing noise?

This noise that sounds like tennis shoes in a dryer is caused by hard water sediment build up in the bottom of the tank. When the water is heated causing turbulence disturbing the sediment causing a rumbling noise. A water softener system can remedy this problem and prolong the life of the water heater. Water softeners are a must for tankless water heaters.
